The Fundamentals of Intercultural Competency is an introductory training program designed to give participants a clear, practical understanding of what intercultural competency is — and why it matters more than ever in today's workplaces, communities, and organizations.

Whether you are a team leader, HR professional, frontline worker, newcomer to Canada, or board member — this course gives you the foundational knowledge and tools to start engaging more effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.

— Understand how social, historical, economic, geographic, and cultural context shapes individual experiences


— Recognize the impact of cultural "blind spots" on your organization and your own performance


— Evaluate your own biases, analyze situations from multiple viewpoints, and apply an intercultural communication model


— Recognize key factors that define cultural differences, including individualism vs. collectivism, power distance, and attitudes toward time


— Distinguish between "high context" and "low context" communication styles


— Identify individual and organizational strategies that support intercultural competency and EDI
